Who are these guys?
In recent years the WSOP has made superstars out of relative unknowns. Chris Moneymaker (2003), Greg Raymer (2004), Joe Hachem (2005) and Jamie Gold (2006) were dragged out of the darkness and into the spotlight after their Main Event wins and this year may be no different.
Despite the big names still competing most of the current chip leaders are not household names… yet. With that in mind here is a brief look at some of the front runners.
Dario Minieri (chip leader with 2.4m) - Young Italian player whose biggest cash to date was coming 3rd in last year’s EPT event in Baden for $159k. He also cashed in last year’s WSOP Main Event coming 543rd.
Robert Nehorayan (1.22m) - Calafornian with over $280k in previous tournament winnings. Won an event at the 2006 Calfornia State Poker Championship for $50k.
Jeff Banghart (1.2m) - No real record in live poker tournaments but hails from Omaha (Nebraska) so it’s no surprise that he knows how to play poker!
Hevad Khan - (1.05m) - Successful internet player who has cashed twice already at this year’s World Series
