final table vulgarity

Wednesday, July 18th, 2007

it’s very vegas, a huge pile of cash piling over the edge of the table.

Yang is leading Lam about 4:1 still.

Can’t say the cards is great, but this is really about the money at this stage.

5.35 million pre flop 10,3,2 rainbow goes to Yang…

small pots for big money

Wednesday, July 18th, 2007

There is nearly $4 million difference between first and second place so, bracelet and posterity aside, these two players will be fighting tooth and nail to get all the chips.

So far we have seen a number of small pots with Lam twice looking Yang up on the river when Yang was on the steal.

A huge pile of cash on the table

Wednesday, July 18th, 2007

Lam and Yang and hardly see each other over the $8,250,000 that sits between them on the final table!

Lam takes the first hand with pocket 9s. It was a small pot but it’s good for Lam’s confidence to take the pot as he is so short stacked

Rahme all-in and all-out

Wednesday, July 18th, 2007

Preflop Yang bets, Rahme reraises and Yang calls.

On a flop of JhAhAd Rahme check-raises all-in over the top of Yang’s bet.

Yang walked around the table and said to Rahme “there’s a lot of money in there Ray, I don’t know if I can give up this hand.”

“It’s your decision what to do, don’t ask me, it is your decision,” replied Rahme.

After long and pained thought Yang made the 25m call into a 57m pot and flipped over A5 - surely he must be behind?

No! Rahme had pocket Kings!

Yang is either an idiot or a genius, but what a time for Rahme to check-raise with Kings.

The turn and river meant nothing and Rahme exists the tournament a lot richer, $3,048,025 richer in fact.

We’re heads up and its Yang versus Lam, with the former being a huge chip leader.

Cosmopolitan Quiz!

In a year which saw players compete from all across the globe, Jerry Yang is the only American left at the 2007 WSOP Main Event final table. Tuan Lam hails from Canada and Raymond Rahme is from South Africa. So its 2-1 for a ‘foreign’ winner in 2007.

In the whole history of the WSOP only four non-Americans have won the Main Event.

Yang busts Kravchenko

Wednesday, July 18th, 2007

Pre-flop, Alex Kravchenko raised. Yang reraised all-in and and Kravchenko insta-called.

The cagey Russian, who has played so well all night, gave no hesitation to his call but was regretting his decision seconds later.

The flop hit Yang square in the face and the third 8 pretty much sealed the deal. A blank on the turn and Kravchenko was drawing dead.

4th place and $1,852,721 goes to the Kravchenko.

Three handed action will begin after the break with the following chip stacks…

Yang 67m
Rahme 36m
Lam 24m

How are they holding up?

Wednesday, July 18th, 2007

Jerry Yang, Tuan Lam and Alex Kravchenko have maintained their stoney visages behind their dark shades, but as this epic final table reaches a near record lenght Raymond Rahme appears to be feeling the pace.

The 62 year-old South African has shown incredible stamina so far, not only has he lasted 11 days of poker he has now lasted nearly 13 hours at the final table.

But it is it beginning to show? He is slumped over the table for most hands, arms only becoming uncrossed to brush a hand through his thinning white hair. He has had a number of coffees and has been seen to take off his glasses (normal glasses, now, not the terminator style glasses of his competitors) to rub his eyes on numerous occassions.

But who knows, maybe he is luring his competitors into a false sense of security!

We will find out soon enough…
