Off to the Bar

Posted by Snoopy at 10:29pm April 13th, 2009

Category: Irish Open 2009 - Final Day , 5 Comments

Despite the deal, the action is slower than a tortoise on the moon, the players really keen to make top prize whether they’ve already locked in a nice payday or not. And so, on that note, we’ve decided to call it a night for today and leave them to their own devices. However, when the results come in, we’ll be sure to post them up so you know who exactly came out smelling or roses.

Until then, stick a fork in me, I’m off to prop up the bar with Padraig, Jesse and co. Gulp. Could be a long night.

Gold meltdown

Posted by AdMMM at 10:17pm April 13th, 2009

Category: Irish Open 2009 - Final Day

Some people have asked about Jamie Gold’s exit. He found QK in the small blind, only to run into AT in the big blind. He hit a queen on the flop but fell victim to a lovely one two running combo that left the big blind with a straight to his name!

Deal Agreed

Posted by Snoopy at 10:11pm April 13th, 2009

Category: Irish Open 2009 - Final Day

After what felt like an hour, but was probably closer to 30 minutes, of deliberation, the final four players eventually agreed to a deal. Discussion went back and forth and a variety of different suggestions were made, but in the end, it was agreed that they would simply alter the prize structure, if only because it was the only solution they could agree on. This therefore means that fourth gets €40,000, third €45,000, second €52,000 and first €72,500. The amounts were slightly less initially because they had miscalculated and left out €5,000. “Why don’t you just leave that additional €5,000 for a tip,” said Noel Hayes. His suggestion was met with a stunned silence.

Bullets Backfire

Posted by Snoopy at 9:30pm April 13th, 2009

Category: Irish Open 2009 - Final Day , 3 Comments

Jeffrey Vanchiro raised it up to 25,000 from the cut-off, Frank Sarubbi flat-called on the button and Trevor Dineen pushed all in for around 120,000 from the small blind. A disgruntled Jamie Gold passed what we later learned was K-J in the big blind, before Vanchiro quickly announced all-in. Sarubbi jumped out of his seat and paced momentarily before returning to fold what we believe was pocket nines.

Dineen = As-Ac
Vanchiro = 2d-2s

Board = Jd-2h-4c-Td-Kc

Dineen didn’t look happy, as one would expect, but shook the hand of his foe nonetheless and exited stage left.
