Australian Joe Hachem Wins the 2005 WSOP
Who ever said that 7 3 off suit was a poor hand? Australian Joe Hachem will surely contest this having taken the ultimate poker crown from Steve Dannermann when he flopped a seven high straight! Here is how the hand played out:
Steve Dannenmann holding A-3 pre flop raises to $700,000 Hachem flat calls holding 7-3 (yuck!). The flop comes 4-5-6 giving Hachem a seven high straight! Hachem checks and Dannermann bets $700,000. Hachem re-raises to $1,700,000 and Dannermann flat calls. The turn is the A giving Dannermann top pair. Hachem bets $2,000,000 and Dannerman raises to $5,000,000. Hachem goes over the top all in and Steve instantly calls. Dannerman at this stage is drawing to a tie with one of the 3 remaining sevens on the river. But alas the river is the 4 and Joe Hachem becomes the new World Champion winning $7,500,000!
Joe Hachem is a 39 year old Chiropractor and Father of four from Melbourne Australia. “I can tell you I've made more money this week than in many years of fixing people's backs.” Hachem said. Reportedly his biggest win pre wsop was $3545! Joe Hachem endured eight days of grueling competition and battled through a field of 5,617 players before coming out victorious… and a multi-millionaire!
Steve Dannermann takes home a not to be sniffed at 4.5 million dollars as the WSOP 2nd place finalist while Tex Barch came in 3rd and took home 2.5 million. Aaaron Kanter who had been chip leader for the early stages of the final table came in 4th with prize money of 2 million and our very own Andy Black took 5th to the roars of the Irish crowd in vegas and at home. Andy took home $1.75 million and earns his place firmly as a legend of Irish poker play.
